SIP & STITCH EVENT: INTRO TO ENGLISH PAPER PIECING with Libs Elliott

English Paper Piecing (EPP) is a traditional method of making patchwork projects, such as quilts, by hand-sewing fabric together using paper to stabilize it. Using paper pieces allows you to sew a variety of shapes with precision and accuracy, that would otherwise be very difficult to sew together neatly. It’s meditative and relaxing and an easily portable craft that can be done at home, while travelling or even while sipping a beer at your favourite brewery!

In this 2-hour workshop, Libs will walk you through the basics of hand-stitching using the English paper piecing method. We’ll cover the basic tools required and methods for stitching. You’ll learn how to baste and sew pieces together by hand and Libs will share examples of different fun projects that can be made using EPP.

Kits for each participant are included in the workshop fee and include:

1” hexagon paper pieces x30
1” hexagon acrylic template for cutting fabrics to size x1
Sewing needle x1
Spool of Wonderfil Konfetti 50wt thread x1
Gluestick x1
A printed booklet with instructions & handy resources

At no additional cost, Libs will bring a big box of pre-cut fabric hexagons for the workshop that you can pull from for our evening of sewing together.

Suggested Tools to bring:

Pair of small, sharp scissors
Eyeglasses if you normally use them for magnifying detailed work or reading

Optional:

You’re welcome to bring your own quilting-weight cotton fabrics (Please iron fabrics in advance of class)
If you bring fabrics, you’ll need fabric scissors (any sharp scissors will do) and a marking tool like a pen to trace your hexagon shapes
